A 27-year-old woman from Dharali village in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, recounted how her daughter's birth played a crucial role in her and her family's survival during the cloudburst and flash floods.
Munendri Devi said the birth of her daughter a day earlier in Dehradun saved her and her family, The Times of India reported. She said her labour started on Monday, and her husband, Anil Cauhan, and her brother, Manoj Rana, rushed her to a hospital, where she delivered a girl on Monday.
"My sister and brother-in-law narrowly escaped this tragedy as they arrived in Dehradun on Monday, and today (Tuesday) we received this news from Dharali. My brother-in-law has a homestay there, which is said to have vanished," Devi's brother Manoj Rana, a former Pradhan of Raithal village, was quoted by TOI as saying.
Their six-year-old is safe with his grandmother, who lives in Uttarkashi. "The doctor said my sister would have to undergo a cesarean section. So, we decided to take her from Dharali to Dehradun," Rana added.
