Bengaluru's Namma Metro Yellow Line to now run every 13 minutes, except for Sundays

Officials said the move is aimed at reducing waiting time and making travel smoother for passengers, especially during busy hours.

Commuters using Bengaluru’s Namma Metro Yellow Line will get more frequent train services starting from Tuesday. The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced that from December 23, trains on the Yellow Line will run every 13 minutes, instead of the current 15-minute gap.

The change comes after BMRCL decided to add a sixth train to the Yellow Line fleet. Officials said the move is aimed at reducing waiting time and making travel smoother for passengers, especially during busy hours.

BMRCL also clarified that the first and last train timings on the Yellow Line will remain the same. Only the frequency between trains during operating hours will be adjusted after the new train is introduced.

On Sundays, however, there will be no change in the schedule. Trains will continue to operate at 15-minute intervals, as per the existing timetable.

The Yellow Line connects key residential and business areas in the city and is heavily used by daily commuters, particularly those travelling to and from Electronic City.

More trains to ease crowding

In a bigger push to improve Metro services, BMRCL is adding 96 new trains across all lines. As more trains are inducted, the Metro aims to eventually run services every four minutes, significantly easing crowding during peak hours.

At present, 64 trains have already been added to the Green, Purple and Yellow Lines. Currently, the Green and Purple Lines together have 58 trains, while the Yellow Line operates with six trains.

BMRCL plans to add 21 more trains to the Green and Purple Lines and nine new trains to the Yellow Line. An additional order for six more trains has also been placed.

Yellow Line stations

The Yellow Line runs from Bommasandra to RV Road and includes stations such as Electronic City, Central Silk Board, BTM Layout, Jayadeva Hospital, and Bommanahalli. Officials said the increased frequency will benefit thousands of daily commuters using this busy corridor.
