A routine ice cream treat turned into a disturbing ordeal for a woman and her family after she allegedly discovered a lizard’s tail inside a cone ice cream purchased from a Havmor outlet in the Maninagar area of Ahmedabad, News18 reported.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 on the popular ice cream brand and sealed the parlour — Mahalaxmi Corner — following the alarming complaint. The civic body has also launched an investigation into food safety violations.
According to the woman, who documented the incident in a video that quickly went viral on social media, she had bought four cones from the store — one each for herself and her children. In the video, she claims to have found part of a dead lizard inside one of the cones after she began feeling ill. As her condition deteriorated, she was rushed to a nearby hospital.
“We bought four cones. We found this in one of the cones (pointing to the lizard’s tail). I have been vomiting continuously. Thankfully, my children didn’t eat it. If anything happens, we will file a case against the company. Please check the products before consuming them,” she says in the footage.

Following the complaint, the AMC's food department inspected the ice cream parlour and discovered that it was operating without a valid licence under the Food Safety and Standards Act. Health department officials immediately sealed the premises and collected product samples from the same batch as the allegedly contaminated ice cream for laboratory testing.
Havmor, a legacy brand with over 200 flagship stores across India, has yet to issue a public statement regarding the incident. News18 reported that the company has remained silent even as outrage grows online over the safety of its products.
