Tata has always been very ambitious with the Punch, and to be honest, the Punch has delivered as no other Tata SUV has ever done. Nearly 7 lakh units sold in just four years show the kind of popularity this micro-SUV has attained. And now, the Tata Punch facelift has entered the market.
While the Punch has never tried to be subtle, it seems to have become more competitive in its updated avatar. With the facelift, Tata has taken its smallest SUV and expanded its brief, stretching performance, safety and technology in ways that are uncommon for the segment.
For the first time, the Punch gets the 1.2-litre iTurbo Revotron petrol engine (120PS and 170Nm). Tata claims a best-in-class power-to-weight ratio, positioning this version as a performance-oriented alternative rather than just a city runabout.
The introduction of the twin-cylinder iCNG system (73PS and 103Nm) with an AMT gearbox is a segment-first. By retaining usable boot space (210 litres) and offering an automatic option, Tata addresses two of the biggest compromises traditionally associated with CNG vehicles.
The facelifted Punch continues Tata's strong safety narrative with a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating and six airbags offered as standard across the range. ESP and iTPMS further strengthen its safety package in the entry SUV class.
The equipment list now includes a 10.25-inch HD infotainment screen, a 360-degree surround view system, 65W Type-C charging, rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming IRVM and an air purifier, features that are still rare at this price point.
Despite the expanded powertrain line-up and added technology, the Punch continues to start at Rs 5.59 lakh (ex-showroom). With petrol (88PS and 115Nm), CNG and turbo-petrol options, and both manual and automatic gearboxes, the Punch now offers one of the widest spreads of choice in its segment.
