BMW India has delivered 1,000 units of its flagship electric vehicle (EV), the BMW i7, since its debut in 2023, marking one of the strongest sales performances for a high-end electric luxury sedan in the Indian market.
The milestone signals growing acceptance of ultra-luxury EVs in India -- a segment that was previously considered niche due to high acquisition costs, charging infrastructure concerns, and limited model availability.
BMW's traction with the i7 suggests demand is emerging among high-net-worth buyers who are prioritising technology, comfort, and electrification over traditional internal combustion flagships.
BMW Group India President and CEO Hardeep Singh Brar said the i7's performance reflects strong customer resonance and reinforces BMW's leadership in the luxury electric segment.
At a product level, the BMW i7 eDrive50 is powered by fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology and delivers 449hp of maximum power and 650Nm of peak torque. It accelerates from 0 to 100kmph in 5.5 seconds and offers a claimed WLTP range of up to 603km.
BMW has also leaned heavily on differentiation through design and rear-seat luxury, a critical factor in India's chauffeur-driven premium car market. The i7 features split headlamps, Swarovski-manufactured BMW crystal headlights, and an illuminated kidney grille to strengthen its visual identity.
Inside, the car places strong emphasis on rear-seat experience, offering a segment-first 31-inch 8K BMW theatre screen with Amazon FireTV integration, executive lounge seating with up to 42.5 degrees of recline, Merino leather upholstery, multi-stage massage, seat ventilation, and a panoramic sunroof with customisable lighting.
While the standard BMW i7 price starts from Rs 2.05 crore (ex-showroom), the sportier M model begins at 2.58 crore (ex-showroom). In the domestic market, the BMW i7 rivals the Mercedes-Benz EQS luxury sedan.
