Maruti Suzuki India today announced that its compact SUV, the Fronx, has achieved the cumulative production milestone of 5 lakh units within 28 months of its launch. It is one of the four SUVs sold by the country's largest carmaker, the other three being the Brezza, Jimny and Grand Vitara.
Unveiled at the Auto Expo 2023 and introduced in the market the same year, the Fronx quickly established itself as one of Maruti's fastest-growing models. At present, it is priced between Rs 7.58 lakh and Rs 13.06 lakh (ex-showroom).
The SUV recorded 1 lakh sales within 10 months of launch and later crossed the 2 lakh (17.3 months) and 3 lakh (24 months) milestones in record time. In February 2025, it posted its highest monthly sales at over 21,400 units.
The Fronx ranked among the top 10 selling passenger vehicles (PVs) in the domestic market in FY25. According to Maruti, one in every five Fronx units produced is exported.
The Fronx became the first 'Made-in-India' Maruti SUV to be exported to Japan. Exports have also grown steadily in Latin America, the Middle East and Africa. In FY25, the Fronx was the highest exported PV in the Indian industry, crossing the 1 lakh export milestone in record time (25 months).
The Fronx is built on the Baleno platform but styled as a compact SUV coupe. It offers multiple powertrain options, including a turbo engine.
There is the 1.2-litre K-Series Dual-Jet Dual-VVT petrol engine, which develops 89.7PS and 113Nm. This engine comes mated to a 5-speed or a 5-speed AMT. There is also a CNG option (77.5PS and 98.5Nm) with a 5-speed MT. The top-spec variants of the Fronx are offered with the 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol unit, which produces 100PS and 147.6Nm with 5-speed MT and 6-speed AT choices.
Among the noteworthy features of the Fronx are a head-up display, 360-degree camera, wireless smartphone charger and a 9-inch SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. These are available in select variants. However, safety features like six airbags, electronic stability control, and ABS with EBD are standard across all the variants.
In its segment, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx competes with models such as the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV 3X0.
