After resigning as Infosys CEO, Vishal Sikka will now take on the role of Executive Vice Chairman at the company.
His resignation letter to the board of directors said he would be “happy to support all of you [the board] to achieve a smooth transition, and serve as your Executive Vice Chair ...”
On his personal blog, Sikka stated that he will work "as Executive Vice Chairman of the Board to further ensure continuity until the new management is in place.”
A notice to the stock exchange on Friday stated that the position of Executive Vice Chairman is a newly created one.
The company expects to identify a permanent CEO by March 31, 2018. Sikka said at an investor call that he has no jobs lined up and will take up surfing once he exits Infosys.
This means that Sikka will be helping with the transition process and the handover of projects initiated. These include Zero Distance, which was a massive grassroots initiative that was aimed at using design thinking principles to bring about innovation within projects.
There is also the operations surrounding the AI platform, Nia, which Sikka stated is “with 160+ scenarios deployed at more than 70 clients, is helping drive both automation within the company, and breakthrough new business scenarios outside.”
Sikka began his tenure with Infosys in 2014 as the Managing Director and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Previously the Technology head at SAP Technologies, he is the first non-founder CEO of the mammoth Information Technology company and can be credited with bringing about the Artificial Intelligence (AI) wave to the company.
