Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni remarks on Islam’s compatibility with European values is once again raising eyebrows.

An old video of Meloni saying "There is an ongoing process of Islamization in Europe, and it’s distant from the values of our civilization", has resurfaced on X.

The video is purportedly from 2018 before she became the Prime Minister of Italy.

She had also claimed that Islamic cultural centers in Italy receive funding from Saudi Arabia, where Sharia law is enforced, according to an earlier report by Moneycontrol.

Earlier, the same video, had resurfaced in December 2023, amid a political gathering organized by Meloni’s far-right party, Brothers of Italy, in Rome, as reported by several media outlets.

The event, attended by leaders such as the former British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, focused on migration and asylum policies in Europe, reported Hindustan Times.

While the video is not recent, its circulation online has reignited conversations about Meloni’s stance on Islam and immigration in Europe.
