Anupam Kher enjoys the snowy serenity of Jungfrau, Switzerland’s “Top of Europe,” while paying tribute to Yash Chopra’s cinematic legacy in the Alps.

For generations of Indian movie lovers, Switzerland has been more than just a travel destination — it’s a cinematic fantasy. Think chiffon sarees fluttering against snow-draped peaks, emerald meadows, and mirror-clear lakes that seem to belong to another world. From Silsila and Chandni to Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra immortalised the European wonderland on the silver screen, turning it into a pilgrimage site for romantics and dreamers alike.

And now, veteran actor Anupam Kher, who has been part of many Yash Raj classics, has rekindled this magic through his recent vacation in Switzerland. His social media diary from the trip — brimming with snowy adventures, heartfelt reflections, and cinematic nostalgia — captures the timeless allure of the Swiss Alps.

At the “Top of Europe”: Jungfrau’s Timeless Beauty

In one of his viral videos, Kher can be seen braving icy winds atop Jungfrau, a peak in the Bernese Highlands often called the “Top of Europe”. Surrounded by dazzling snowfields and shimmering glaciers, Jungfrau is home to some of Switzerland’s most breathtaking landscapes — from the roaring waterfalls of Lauterbrunnen Valley to serene alpine lakes like Bachalpsee.

Kher’s caption paid a touching tribute to Bollywood’s leading ladies who filmed song sequences here in freezing temperatures. “Hats off to all the Indian actresses who did song sequences here in just chiffon Sarees in -7 degrees! That is also dedication! I was finding it difficult to stand there wearing five layers of clothes!”, he wrote with characteristic humour.

Jungfrau’s scenic train journey, the Jungfraujoch Railway, remains a bucket-list experience for visitors, taking you to Europe’s highest railway station — a marvel of engineering and beauty combined.

The Yash Chopra Train — A Moving Tribute

During his visit to the Jungfrau station, Kher stumbled upon something truly special: the Yash Chopra Train — a tribute by the Swiss government to the filmmaker who put their country on the world’s cinematic map. Introduced in 2011, this Stadler-built train commemorates Chopra’s lasting impact on Swiss tourism, with many Indian visitors drawn to the country because of his films.

In an emotional post, Kher reflected, “The fact that ONE person’s cinematic vision can change the tourism industry of a country is UNBELIEVABLE! And that is exactly what I witnessed on my trip here.”

Strolling Through Swiss Serenity

Beyond the film nostalgia, Kher also found peace in Switzerland’s quiet beauty. Sharing glimpses of nature walks along tree-lined avenues, he tweeted, “Nature always heals, rejuvenates, restores. And some old Hindi film songs playing in your head add more magic to the most magical street in the world.”

It’s this blend of stillness and cinematic charm that makes Switzerland so much more than a postcard-perfect destination. It’s a place where film, emotion, and natural grandeur meet in perfect harmony.
