The meeting comes two days after he had asked all political parties of Jammu and Kashmir to jointly appeal to the Centre to bring back all detainees lodged outside the Union Territory.

"While we would like to see them all released as soon as possible, pending that they should be shifted to JK. This is a humanitarian demand and I hope others will join me in placing this demand in front of the government of India," the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister said.

Rajnath Singh also said that he hopes they will contribute to normalising the situation in Jammu and Kashmir

Yadav raised the issue of Abdullah's detention by the Jammu and Kashmir administration in Lok Sabha during the Question Hour.

Abdullah, the National Conference leader and former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, has been under detention from August 5 last year since the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A.

The name of the 81-year-old National Conference leader, in detention at his Srinagar home for over 100 days, tops the list of members of the panel headed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

Opposition leaders also raised the issue of MPs not being allowed to visit Jammu and Kashmir after abrogation of its special status, whereas parliamentarians from Europe have been taken to the state, with Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury describing the EU delegation as "bhade ke tattu" (hirelings).

At the government-convened meeting attended by almost all major political parties, Prime Minister Modi said the most important job of the House is to discuss and debate and this session should also be as productive as the last one, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi told reporters.

The opposition party also alleged that the Centre had left "no stone unturned in internationalising Kashmir" and hit out at the government for allowing European Union (EU) lawmakers to visit the Valley but not Indian leaders.

Block Development Council (BDC) elections in the state are scheduled for October 24 and the NC has maintained that it will be not be able to take part in the exercise if its leaders are kept in detention.

The dossier reportedly notes that Abdullah has the potential to create public disorder within Srinagar district and other parts of the Kashmir Valley

In addition, when asked about the restoration of statehood to J&K, Singh said it will not take 72 years, which was another dig at the continuation of Article 370 for seven decades

Speculation is rife that the Centre may have plans to quash Article 35A, which grants special rights to the state's residents in government jobs and land

"There was a kind of communal mentality that is spreading a malicious propaganda about the Urdu language. Urdu has never belonged to a particular sect or faith," Abdullah said.

"PM Modi and Shah are the biggest enemies of people who believe in dividing the nation on basis of caste, creed and religion. But the people have made it a point not to fall prey to the divisive agenda of the BJP," Abdullah said.
