Polling in 16 constituencies began at 7 am, while voting process in Nizamabad started at 8 am. Over 2.97 crore voters would decide the fate of 443 candidates in the state.

The AIMIM president was alluding to the debate about the demographic composition in Wayanad in Kerala from where Congress president Rahul Gandhi is contesting the Lok Sabha polls.

Speaking at a public meeting here Sunday night, the Hyderabad sitting MP alleged that both the national parties had 'failed' to deliver on thier promises, despite having majority during their respective terms.

State BJP spokesperson Krishna Sagar Rao said his party had sought the cancellation of Owaisi's nomination. Owaisi is seeking re-election from the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency.

"Hyderabad Parliamentary Constituency has been the voice of India's impoverished, oppressed & weak. Inshallah, it will continue to be so", he said on Twitter.

The former India captain is the top pick of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) for the constituency. It has shortlisted candidates for all the 17 Lok Sabha segments in Telangana, party sources said.

"This insidious attempt by the Central Government should not be ignored. They're trying everything in their capacity to prevent a fair and independent adjudication of the Babri Masjid dispute," the All India Majilis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader tweeted.

Owaisi said he will meet KCR (Rao) Monday afternoon adding this is "our first step towards a larger goal of nation building."

He claimed both BJP President Amit Shah and Congress President Rahul Gandhi want to "stop" his party in the December 7 Assembly elections

He also claimed the Telangana Rashtra Samithi was the BJP's "B team" and its chief K Chandrasekhar Rao "operates" as Prime Minister Modi's "Telangana Rubber Stamp".
