Nitin Kumar Gaur, Galgotias University Registrar, on Thursday said they have given their explanation, adding that ruining the country’s image was never the intention. He added that the professor who falsely claimed the robodog as a university-developed robot has not been suspended.
“We (Galgotias University) have already given our explanation. I told you yesterday that it was a mistake, we are sorry for that... We never want the image of the university or the country to be ruined... We have vacated the stall from there (India AI Impact Summit). We are definitely going to investigate the rest of the things. We will see why this mistake was made and will ensure that no such mistake is repeated... If the image is ruined because of one mistake, then it is unacceptable...,” Gaur said, speaking to ANI news agency.
On the university’s professor, Neha, he added, “She is not suspended and has been told to stay... Until the complete investigation is done as to why such a mistake has been committed, such proceedings will continue... Because of one person's wrongdoing, the entire university should not be questioned... We are also citizens of India, and we definitely want our country to move forward.”

The row began at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in Delhi’s Bharat Mandapam, where Galgotias University’s stall drew attention after Professor Neha Singh introduced a robotic dog named “Orion” as a product developed at the Centre of Excellence at the university.
“This is Orion. This has been developed at the Centre of Excellence at Galgotias University,” she was heard saying.
Soon after, Chinese media reports flagged that the robotic dog was in fact a commercial product made by Chinese robotics firm Unitree and not an original university innovation.
The episode quickly escalated online, triggering criticism and prompting the university to vacate its stall at the summit expo.
In an earlier statement, Galgotias University apologised “profusely for the confusion created at the recent AI Summit,” saying one of its representatives was ill-informed and not authorised to speak to the press.
“She was not aware of the technical origins of the product and in her enthusiasm of being on camera, gave factually incorrect information,” the university had said, adding there was no institutional intent to misrepresent the innovation.
The university reiterated its commitment to “academic integrity, transparency, and responsible representation” and said it vacated the premises in view of the organisers’ sentiments.
Hours after the controversy snowballed into a national debate, speculation intensified on social media regarding Professor Neha Singh’s professional future. The buzz gathered pace after her LinkedIn profile showed her status as “open to work”, prompting questions over her employment status.
Neha, responding to the backlash, said that by one misinterpretation, “the internet has gone by storm”, describing the episode as her inability to properly convey what was meant to be said.
With an internal investigation now underway, the university has sought to draw a line under the episode, even as the incident raises broader questions about representation and verification at high-profile global technology events.
