India on Friday said it is closely monitoring the evolving situation in Tehran amid escalating tensions between Iran and the United States, while remaining in constant touch with Indian nationals in the country.

Addressing a media briefing in New Delhi, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the government is actively tracking developments and maintaining communication with the Indian community in Iran’s capital.

“We are keeping an eye on the situation and staying in constant touch with the Indian community living there,” Jaiswal said in response to queries on the worsening Iran-US standoff.

The statement comes against the backdrop of sharply rising tensions between Tehran and Washington. Reports suggest the United States could be preparing for possible military action, pending a final decision by President Donald Trump.

In recent days, the US has expanded its military presence in the Middle East, repositioning warships, aircraft and additional forces closer to the region. The buildup follows stalled negotiations over Iran’s nuclear programme.

Talks held in Geneva saw engagement but no breakthrough. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said discussions had made some progress but acknowledged that both sides remain “far apart” on key issues.

She urged Iran to return with concrete proposals and said it would be “wise” for Tehran to reach an agreement with the Trump administration.

Trump has also alluded to potential military options, including the possible use of the US base at Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean if diplomacy fails.

The rising tensions have triggered concern among several countries. Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk has advised Polish citizens to leave Iran immediately, warning that the security situation could deteriorate quickly and evacuation windows may close at short notice.

Meanwhile, Iran has stepped up military activity, conducting naval drills with Russia and holding live-fire exercises near strategic shipping routes. The US has responded by deploying an aircraft carrier and additional combat aircraft to the region.
