DC Studios’ CEO James Gunn has debunked the claims made in a report that there could be a Batman game set in director Matt Reeves' ‘The Batman’ film universe, that rebooted the Batman franchise with 2022's The Batman.

A report by Puck News had said that there could be a game based on HBO’s upcoming The Penguin TV series, which is set in director Matt Reeves’ The Batman film universe that introduced us to Robert Pattinson’s young, inexperienced and rage-fueled Bruce Wayne. But James Gunn has quashed such claims by stating on Threads: "Sadly there is no truth to this whatsoever."

HBO’s The Penguin TV show, in which Colin Farrell will reprise his role as the Gotham crime boss, is set in the ‘Battinson-verse’ and will be released on September 19. Those waiting for The Batman II have something to look forward to before the long wait for The Batman II ends as The Penguin will tie in directly to The Batman II.

The Batman II is expected to release in 2026, though nothing has been confirmed yet about the release timeline. Robert Pattinson will return as Batman in The Batman II, however.

If you are itching for a new Batman game, DC and Warner Bros. have got you covered with Batman: Arkham Shadow, a VR game where you get to play as Batman in the first person. Arkham Shadow's release is also near as the game will launch this October. Batman: Arkham Shadow is developed by Camouflaj and Oculus Studio, in the vein of Rocksteady's Arkham games.

Batman returns with a new Arkham game this October: What you need to know

But Batman Arkham Shadow is a Meta Quest 3-exclusive title and if you aren’t really into VR games, then it’s probably best to have a go at one of the Batman Arkham series titles once more. How about Batman: Arkham Origins?  You could set your mind to solving all the optional Riddler challenges this time if you’d ignored them earlier in your playthrough.
