The Batman Arkham game series from Rocksteady Studios is all set to get a fresh revival with Batman Arkham: Shadow, an upcoming VR game that allows you to play as the Caped Crusader in first person. Batman Arkham: Shadow is developed by Camouflaj and Oculus Studio in collaboration with DC and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.
From the official gameplay trailer of Batman Arkham: Shadow, we learn that Rocksteady hasn’t tinkered a lot with the gameplay elements and Batman gadgetry that was such an intrinsic part of all the Batman Arkham games like 2009’s Batman: Arkham Asylum, Batman: Arkham City (2011), Batman: Arkham Origins (2013) and even Batman: Arkham Knight (2015)
Batman Arkham: Shadow--the newest entry to the Batman Arkham franchise--retains items and features from the Arkham games like Batman's Grapple Gun, the explosive gel, the Detective Mode, the Bat-slam move, Batman’s glide kick, the critical strike meter that builds up when Batman keeps hurting the bad guys without taking a single hit, and even the Shock Gloves the Dark Knight grabbed from someone (without his permission, of course) in Arkham Origins. The one major thing that’s different is that you get to play Batman in the first person.
2. Batman Arkham Shadow: The Dark Knight goes after the Rat KingBatman Arkham Shadow’s official gameplay trailer shows Batman dealing with a new menace in Gotham– the Rat King and his Rat Cult. Assisting the Caped Crusader in this case would be Jim Gordon (it was supposed to be the other way round but that’s how it is when Batman teams up with the GCPD).
3. Batman Arkham Shadow: DC Comics characters you’ll meetBatman Arkham Shadow features the DC Comics characters of Dr Harleen Quinzel and Dr Jonathan Crane before they became Harley Quinn and Scarecrow. The first-person Batman VR game is set early in the crimefighting career of Bruce Wayne. It also features major Batman universe characters like Jim Gordon, Harvey Dent and Ratcatcher.
4. Batman Arkham Shadow: Release date and platformsBatman Arkham Shadow is slated for an October 2024 release and will launch exclusively on the Meta Quest 3.
