LEGO: Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight, the upcoming open-world Batman action-adventure game, recently unveiled four in-game Batsuits, inspired by the various Batsuits featured in Batman comics, animated TV shows and live-action films. These are the Sonar Suit, the Golden Age Batsuit, Batman: The Animated Series Suit and the Costume Party Suit. Here we take a look at their first appearance in the DC Comics mythos and their in-game specialities.
LEGO: Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight- The Sonar Suit
The Sonar Suit made its first appearance on June 16, 1995, in Batman Forever. The Sonar Suit for Batman in the Legacy of the Dark Knight game includes sonar modifications. Amongst all four Batsuits, this is the one suit that gives Batman the most well-prepared look in the game till now. Not just in comics, Batman has been shown using sonar in his films as well. If you have seen Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight (2008), Christian Bale’s Batman is given a Sonar-based device by Lucius Fox (portrayed by Morgan Freeman) at a certain point.
LEGO: Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight- The Golden Age Batsuit
The Caped Crusader of DC Comics first appeared wearing the Golden Age Batsuit in Detective Comics issue number 27, published in May 1939. The Golden Age Batsuit in LEGO: Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight accentuates the cowl with “extra pointy ears”. All preorders of LEGO: Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight will get the Golden Age Batsuit at launch.
LEGO Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight- Batman: The Animated Series Suit
The third Batsuit to be announced is the Batman: The Animated Series suit. It first appeared in The Cat and the Claw, on September 5, 1992. The Batman: The Animated Series suit has a blue-lined cape.
LEGO: Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight- The Costume Party Suit
The Costume Party Suit in LEGO: Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight made its first appearance in Detective Comics Annual #7, in June, 1994. The game version of the Batsuit is designed to strike fear in “scallywags”. The Costume Party suit has Batman wearing a pirate-themed hat with a skull-and-bones logo on the front. Clad in this suit, he also sports facial hair.
Apart from the aforementioned four Batsuits, more will be included in the LEGO Batman game, that is scheduled for a May 22 release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store). The Nintendo Switch 2 version will release later in 2026.
