WeTransfer, the popular file-sharing service, has introduced a new feature that allows users to extend the expiry dates of their shared files. WeTransfer has added a new “Save for Now” option on its mobile app that enables users to modify the expiry date of the shared files.
WeTransfer has announced this feature via a rather confusing post on X where the post mentions “WeTransfer links will no longer expire”. However, it is worth noting that the links on WeTransfer will expire unless users take the required action and extend the date.
Read the WeTransfer’s post“Dear WeTransfer users,
Never in a million years did we imagine we'd have to write these words. Or that things would come to this. But here we are. It is with a heavy heart that we must inform you: WeTransfer links will no longer expire. We've parted ways with what once was. The relationship with expiry links had grown strained, and the journey here has been long and painful."Can you send that link again? It expired. " Are words you hopefully never have to utter again.
We've listened, and we understand your concerns. Now, you can hold onto those transfers a little longer, extending the expiration date up to 30 days in the WeTransfer mobile app. Please respect our privacy during this difficult time. We will share more when we find the strength.”
How the feature worksThe new “Save for Now” option in the mobile app allows users to extend the expiry dates of the shared files. The feature allows users to save links to a separate folder within the app and let them access it later when needed.
There’s a limitationThe maximum limit of the expiry date is set to 30 days. This means users can only extend the dates for up to 30 days. However, this applies only to the paid users. For free account holders, the default expiry date is three days with the option to extend it to seven days using the app.
