After two decades in the tech industry, a Meta engineer with a net worth of $7 million says he is ready to leave behind the corporate grind and is now eyeing a career in teaching.

Posting anonymously on Blind, a workplace discussion app popular among tech workers, the engineer opened up about the frustrations of life in Big Tech. Despite having what many would call a dream job, he described the work culture as exhausting and hollow.

“I’m sick of the corporate grind and playing games, putting up a fake show, sucking up to people just to ensure they don’t mess up my review,” he wrote. He went on to say he was tired of “taking shit from clueless managers” and chasing goals that seemed to be invented on a whim.

With 20 years of experience in the industry, the engineer recently joined Meta but already feels disillusioned. Financially, he admits he cannot retire just yet he has two children and their college expenses to plan for but with a net worth of $7 million, he has room to rethink his career.

That rethink, he says, is pushing him toward teaching. He is particularly interested in teaching within the tech industry, where his experience could shape the next generation of engineers. “I’m very passionate about teaching,” he wrote, before asking others for advice on whether there are well-paid teaching roles he could start preparing for.

The post struck a chord with many, as office politics and burnout are common complaints in Silicon Valley. Even high earners with financial security are not immune to the mental toll of long hours, constant performance reviews, and the endless competition of the corporate ladder.

For this Meta engineer, the question now is not whether he can survive the grind, but whether he wants to. And judging by his words, the answer seems clear, the next chapter of his career might be less about climbing ranks in Big Tech and more about shaping minds in a classroom.
