Warner Bros. has a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy–the Harry Potter open-world RPG– in mind and it’s one of their biggest priorities in the next two years. During an interview at Bank of America’s 2024 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference, Warner Bros. Discovery’s CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels said: “Obviously, a successor to ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ is one of the biggest priorities in a couple of years down the road. So there is certainly a significant growth contribution from that [games] business in our strategic outlook here.”
The story of Hogwarts Legacy is set in the pre-Harry Potter time of the 1800s and adds new characters to the Harry Potter literary universe. In this open-world, single-player role-playing game, you play as a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
In Hogwarts Legacy, as a student at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, you attend classes, learn and master spells, tame and ride magical beasts, prepare potions, grow magical plants etc. The Harry Potter RPG also gives you a “fully realized Hogwarts Castle” to explore.
By the end of 2023, Hogwarts Legacy had sold over 22 million copies, with the December holiday season contributing sales of about 2 million game copies, as per Warner Bros. Games. The publisher would like to take advantage of the successful reception of Hogwarts Legacy by making a sequel, especially since its DC universe title 'Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League' underperformed.
Harry Potter Quidditch Champions is a recently launched Harry Potter title published by Warner Bros. under their Portkey Games label, the same publisher behind Hogwarts Legacy. But Quidditch Champions does not connect to Hogwarts Legacy storywise and is just a Quidditch-focussed Harry Potter RPG. It does feature JK Rowling universe characters like Harry Potter, Draco Malfoy and others, while also allowing you to create your own.
