Qualcomm is scheduled to announce its next flagship chipset, the purported Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, at its upcoming Snapdragon Summit, which will take place from September 23 to September 25. That chip has the model number SM8850. However, new rumors in China suggest that a new chipset with the model number SM8845 could be launched next year as well, with its performance similar to the Snapdragon 8 Elite, but still a step below the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2.
Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship chipset: Expected performance
In a post on the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo, tipster Digital Chat Station has revealed that Qualcomm is developing a new high-end SoC with the model number SM8845, which could offer Snapdragon 8 Elite's level of performance, which is the company's current flagship SoC. This processor is expected to be released next year, and the chipmaker is looking to place it between its next flagship, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, and its current flagship.
Additionally, the tipster revealed that it will be developed on a proprietary architecture with large cores. It is also expected to be manufactured on TSMC's 3nm N3P process, along with “some peripherals” of the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. The processor is tipped to power next year’s premium midrange and budget flagship smartphones, featuring large-sized batteries, with a maximum capacity of 8,000mAh.
A GSMArena report adds that this purported chipset could be named as Snapdragon 8 Plus. Looking at its expected performance metrics, the purported Snapdragon 8 Plus could bridge the performance gap between the 8s series and the 8 Elite lineup.
