Qualcomm unveils Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 mobile processor: Key details

American chipmaker Qualcomm has unveiled the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 Mobile Platform. The Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 is equipped with Qualcomm Kryo CPU that’s claimed to give up to 10% better CPU performance.  The octa-core Qualcomm Kryo CPU is composed of 4 performance cores (up to 2.4GHz) and 4 efficiency cores (up to 1.8GHz)

Qualcomm says that the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3’s AI Engine will give 20% better AI performance thus making everyday tasks easier. The Qualcomm AI Engine also packs in features like AI-based noise cancellation and AI-based activity tracking.

The Qualcomm Adreno GPU comes with API support for OpenGL ES 3.2, OpenCL 2.0 FP and Vulkan 1.1. It features HDR gaming (10-bit colour depth, Rec. 2020 colour gamut), hardware-accelerated H.265 and VP9 decoder and HDR Playback Codec support for HLG.

Qualcomm claims that the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3's Adreno GPU will boost gaming performance by over 30%. With the Adreno GPU and select Snapdragon Elite Gaming features, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 Mobile Platform will also maintain vivid visuals, claims Qualcomm. Some of the gaming-centric features of the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 Mobile Platform are Variable Rate Shading, Qualcomm Game Color Plus and Qualcomm Game Quick Touch.

As per the California-based chipmaker, Variable Rate Shading “optimizes power and performance by rendering content of focus at full resolution and the rest at a lower resolution”.

The Qualcomm Game Color Plus boosts colour, saturation, sharpness and detail in games while the Game Quick Touch is “optimized to the millisecond to reduce touch latency”, as per the chipmaker.

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 comes with Qualcomm Spectra Triple Image Signal Processor that can take up to 200 MP single-shot photos and 4K HDR videos and “simultaneous capture from three cameras with ultra-fast parallel processing and smooth zooming”, claims Qualcomm.
