PhonePe partners with OpenAI to bring ChatGPT to its customers for travel planning, shopping help and everyday assistance

PhonePe has announced a strategic collaboration with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into its ecosystem, making the AI assistant available to users across the PhonePe consumer app and PhonePe for Business app. The company said the partnership is aimed at accelerating the adoption of generative AI in India by offering AI-driven help for tasks such as planning travel, researching products and accessing everyday information.

How ChatGPT will work inside PhonePe
The integration will allow users to explore ChatGPT’s features directly within PhonePe. Users will be able to ask questions, find relevant information, compare products, plan travel and receive structured responses inside the app. PhonePe said the integration will draw upon the broader ecosystem, including the Indus Appstore, to make ChatGPT discoverable across regions and device types.
The company added that as the use of generative AI increases in the country, the collaboration is expected to unlock new consumer use cases, making it easier for more users to interact with AI tools for daily requirements.

What PhonePe said about the launch
Rahul Chari, Founder, Whole-time Director and Chief Technology Officer at PhonePe, said the company has spent years building foundational layers for population-scale digital services. He said the collaboration with OpenAI shows how partnerships across the technology ecosystem can help expand the reach of AI tools to a wider audience. Chari added that PhonePe is beginning a new phase in its technological journey through this integration.

Oliver Jay, Head of International at OpenAI, said the collaboration is a significant milestone in their mission to make AI accessible to people across India. He said India is a global hub for innovation, and PhonePe’s understanding of user behaviour and its large base make the company a strong partner for expanding consumer-focused AI solutions.
