Microsoft has confirmed that it has held another round of layoffs this week. The layoffs, according to a reported by Wired Geek, will impact various teams and locations across the company. However, Microsoft hasn’t disclosed the number of employees that have been impacted in the latest round of job cuts.

The report cites social media posts on LinkedIn, which indicate that the cuts have been in product and program management functions.

A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed the layoffs to Wired Geek. “Organisational and workforce adjustments are a necessary and regular part of managing our business,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “We will continue to prioritise and invest in strategic growth areas for our future and in support of our customers and partners.”

Microsoft ended its fiscal year on June 30 and restructuring efforts during this period are not unusual for the tech giant. It was something Microsoft did in 2023 as well.

The fresh round of layoffs follow previous cuts that have taken place in 2024. At the beginning of the year, Microsoft cut almost 2,000 jobs in its gaming division.. Last month, another round of layoffs impacted roughly 1,000 positions, including roles within the Azure cloud unit and the HoloLens mixed-reality team.

In the last 18 months or so, Microsoft has laid off thousands of employees. The layoffs have been part of a broader trend across the tech industry. According to layoffs.fyi, so far close to 100,000 employees have been laid off across tech companies. In 2023, the number of employees laid off by tech companies was close to 260,000.
