Google's AI mode search rolls out to more users with smart new features

While these features are now available through Labs, Google is also running a limited test where some users may start seeing the AI Mode tab directly in Search.

Google is expanding access to its AI-powered search tool, called AI Mode, allowing more people in the US to try out a new way of searching that’s smarter, more interactive, and a bit like chatting with a helpful assistant. Until now, this feature was limited to users who signed up for early access through Google’s Labs. But starting this week, the waitlist is gone, and anyone in the US can give it a shot.

So, what exactly is AI Mode? Think of it as a more advanced version of Google Search that lets you ask longer, more detailed questions — like “Which pet insurance covers exotic animals and has good customer service?” — and then refine those searches with follow-up questions. It’s designed to handle complex tasks that regular search sometimes struggles with.

Google is also adding new features to make AI Mode more practical. For instance, if you’re looking up local restaurants, shops, or salons, you’ll now see visual cards that show ratings, reviews, hours, and more — all in one place. Shopping is getting a boost too: AI Mode will now show products with real-time prices, current promotions, shipping details, and whether something is in stock at nearby stores.

Let’s say you’re planning a camping trip. You could search for “best foldable camping chair that fits in a backpack under $100” — and AI Mode will pull up a list of options that match your budget, complete with product images and links to buy.

Another helpful addition is the ability to pick up where you left off. On desktop, you’ll now see a panel on the left that shows your recent searches. This makes it easier to revisit ongoing research or planning without having to start over.

While these features are now available through Labs, Google is also running a limited test where some users may start seeing the AI Mode tab directly in Search. That means even more people could get a taste of this next-gen search experience very soon.

To try it out, head to Google Labs or make sure you have the latest version of the Google app.
