Football Manager 25 has been cancelled, developer Sports Interactive announced in an official website post. The football management simulation game was already running quite behind on its expected launch timeline. Sports Interactive said that they will instead focus on the next installment of the franchise. As per the developer, they made “the difficult decision” to cancel the game after “extensive internal discussion and careful consideration” with publisher SEGA.
The release date of Football Manager has already been pushed twice and the developer was not happy with the progress on the quality of the game, especially “the overarching player experience and interface” was not where they needed it to be.
“Each decision to delay the release was made with the aim of getting the game closer to the desired level but, as we approached critical milestones at the turn of the year, it became unmistakably clear that we would not achieve the standard required, even with the adjusted timeline”, the developer added in the website post.
Sports Interactive said that they could have released Football Manager 25 in its unpolished state and issued fixes later but “that’s not the right thing to do”. They also didn’t want to release the game after March on account of being too late in the football season to expect people to buy FM25.
Sports Interactive will issue full refunds to all those who pre-purchased a copy of Football Manager 25 “through an official SEGA-approved retailer”. “Retailers will process refunds in due course, for any enquiries please contact your point of purchase”, the developer added.
