Back in May 2024, Apple announced a host of iOS accessibility features. With iOS 18, some of those features are now available. Among them is , which helps users with reducing motion sickness.
As per Apple, research shows that motion sickness is commonly caused by a sensory conflict between what a person sees and what they feel, which can prevent some users from comfortably using an iPhone or iPad while riding in a moving vehicle. “With Vehicle Motion Cues, animated dots on the edges of the screen represent changes in vehicle motion to help reduce sensory conflict without interfering with the main content,” says Apple.
How does the feature work?
Using sensors built into iPhone and iPad, Vehicle Motion Cues recognises when a user is in a moving vehicle and responds accordingly. The feature can be set to show automatically on the iPhone or can be turned on and off in the Control Centre.
How to use the feature?
If you want to activate Vehicle Motion Cues, follow these simple steps:
Open the Settings app on your iPhone
Navigate to Accessibility: Tap on “Accessibility."
Look for and tap on “Motion."
Locate the "Show Vehicle Motion Cues" option and toggle it on.
Once enabled, you'll notice subtle visual cues on your device's screen that correspond to your vehicle's movements. For example, when you turn, you may see a gentle tilt or rotation of the screen. Remember that this can help reduce motion sickness and not completely prevent it.
