Capcom has released a five-minute “Creators’ Message” video for its offline single-player game Resident Evil Requiem. The video is part of Capcom Spotlight June 2025 and gives more details on several aspects of the recently announced horror title. Resident Evil Requiem is the next mainline entry in the Resident Evil franchise, due to come out on February 27, 2026.
The creators’ message video has game director Koshi Nakanishi, art director Tomonori Takano and producers Masachika Kawata and Masato Kumazawa giving their in-depth takes on various aspects of the upcoming survival horror game, like its concept, protagonist, evolution, etc.
- Resident Evil Requiem: Concept Resident Evil Requiem director Koshi Nakanishi is the first to appear in the creators’ message video. He starts by saying that the development team’s core concept for Resident Evil Requiem was “addictive fear”.
“There is something about the catharsis you get from overcoming your fears. It creates an addiction that makes you want to do more, play more. That intense focus, while scary, makes for a really fun game. This served as our launching point for Requiem,” Nakanishi says in the video.

Producer Masachika Kawata said that they wanted to make the fear factor a key feature of the gameplay.
- Resident Evil Requiem: Protagonist Grace Ashcroft Nakanishi also revealed more details on Resident Evil’s newest protagonist, Grace Ashcroft. Grace is an FBI intelligence analyst who is “introverted and easily scared, which is a new type of character for the Resident Evil series.”
“We wanted someone that experiences horror from the same perspective as the player.”
Nakanishi added that over the course of the Requiem storyline, Grace will learn to overcome her fears. Although she gets scared easily, she’s well-trained in firearms and can “act with calm deductive reasoning”.
- Why Resident Evil Requiem developers didn't make Leon the protagonist The Resident Evil Requiem developers wanted to make Leon the main protagonist for the series, but Nakanishi notes that “making a horror game based around him is difficult. He wouldn’t jump at something like a bucket falling. No one wants to see Leon scared by every little thing.”
- Getting some outside help for realistic art Art director Tomonori Takano shed some light on the level of detail the team has achieved while they strove to bring more realism to the looks of Grace Ashcroft at several points in the Requiem story. He says that the team put a lot of effort into things like the redness of her face from being hung upside down and the realistic physics of her hair.” The team called in a professional to make a wig to use as a model for Grace’s hair graphics.
- Why the game’s called “Resident Evil: Requiem” The Resident Evil game franchise will complete 30 years in March 2026. As per Game director Koshi Nakanishi, the ninth mainline game “is a requiem, a eulogy to those who came before. We chose the title “Requiem” to mark a milestone in the series.”
