India's shooting duo, Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh, have secured their place in the bronze-medal match for the 10m air pistol mixed team event at the Paris 2024 Olympics, having finished third in the qualification round. They will face South Korea, who qualified in fourth position. In the gold medal match, Turkiye and Serbia will compete for the top honours.
Bhaker and Singh accumulated a total of 580-20x points in the qualification round, ensuring their spot in the medal match. South Korea, who will be their opponents, registered 579-18x points to take the fourth place. Turkiye led the qualification with 582-18x points, closely followed by Serbia with 581-24x points.
Unfortunately, the other Indian team, comprised of Rhythm Sangwan and Arjun Singh Cheema, finished in 10th place, missing out on the medal rounds.
On a historic note, Manu Bhaker made headlines on Sunday by becoming the first Indian woman to win a medal in shooting at the Olympics. She clinched a bronze in the women's 10m air pistol event with a score of 221.7, marking India’s first medal of the ongoing Games.
South Korea’s Ye Jin achieved gold in the same event with an Olympic record score of 243.2 points, while her compatriot Kim Yeji secured the silver with a score of 241.3 points.
