The Indian Street Premier League (ISPL) has rapidly become the fan favourite, captivating the audiences with its remarkable fusion of cricket and entertainment.

Following a highly successful inaugural edition, the ongoing second season of India's biggest sports and music carnival currently underway at Thane's Dadoji Kondadev Stadium, with the final scheduled to be held on February 15.

Featuring six franchises, ISPL has redefined this exciting format of cricket by bringing electrifying energy of tennis-ball cricket into stadium. The league is backed by a strong visionary leadership team that includes Core Committee Members batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, Ashish Shelar, Minal Amol Kale and Suraj Samat, who’s also the League Commissioner.

With a threefold mission of identification, development, and promotion, this league is a catalyst for nurturing grassroots-level cricketers, providing them with a world-class platform to showcase their skills.

In an exclusive interview with Moneycontrol, the League Commissioner and Core Committee Member Suraj Samat opened up about the impact of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar's association, involvement of celebrities, league's vision and future plan, the success of the inaugural season and expectations from the ongoing edition.

Samat is a respected business leader with extensive experience in sports management and administration. As a Trustee of the Mumbai Cricket Association for over 14 years and an Apex Council Member, Samat has demonstrated a deep understanding of the needs and challenges faced by sportspersons.

Q.1: How successful was Season 1 in terms of numbers, and what are your expectations for the upcoming season?

Suraj Samat: Season 1 was a trailblazing success! We shattered expectations, and the numbers speak for themselves. But for me, it was about more than just numbers – it was about reigniting the passion for tennis-ball cricket across India. This season, we'’re taking it up a notch! We’re introducing fan parks, live screenings, and interactive sessions that’ll make fans feel like they’re part of the action. Get ready for an unparalleled viewing experience!

Q.2: What were the lessons of the inaugural edition that you considered while planning for the second season?

Suraj Samat: We learned that the key to success lies in staying true to our roots. We fine-tuned our logistics, improved our scheduling, and made sure our fans feel more connected to the players. But the biggest lesson was that our fans crave for more – more excitement, more drama, and more innovation. That’s exactly what we’re delivering this season!

Q.3: Thoughts behind choosing tennis-ball cricket for the league, and what was the biggest challenge you faced?

Suraj Samat: Tennis-ball cricket is more than just a format – it’s a symbol of India’s cricketing heritage. We chose it because it’s relatable, nostalgic, and thrilling. The challenge was to elevate it to a professional level without losing its raw charm. I’m proud to say we’ve succeeded in creating a unique blend of street cricket and professional sports entertainment.

With the introduction of DRS, our broadcast quality has reached new heights. Our fans will now get to experience the game like never before, with detailed analysis, speed guns, and hawk-eye technology. We’re providing a level of detail and analysis that’s unparalleled in Indian sports broadcasting. We’re now at par with any international viewing experience, and our sponsors are taking notice.

Q.6: ISPL has signed JioStar as its official broadcaster for three seasons. How important is this partnership?
