Abhishek Sharma slams 148 in 52 balls, Mohammed Shami-Akash Deep face India opener's wrath

Despite taking just 32 balls to complete his hundred, this notably isn't the fastest century by an Indian in T20s.

In yet another epic display of sensational hitting, Abhishek Sharma blasted 148 in 52 balls in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025 encounter between Punjab and Bengal in Hyderabad on Sunday. The southpaw reached his half-century in just 12 balls and the three-digit figure in 32 balls. Batting at a staggering strike-rate of 284.61, Abhishek hammered 8 fours and 16 sixes in his innings.

His efforts along with Prabhsimran Singh's 35-ball 70 powered Punjab to 310/5 in 20 overs after winning the toss and opting to bat. Punjab's cause was further bolstered by late cameos by Ramandeep Singh and Sanvir Singh. Ramandeep smoked 39 in 15 balls, while Sanvir smashed 22 off 9 balls.

Even the seasoned Mohammed Shami and India pacer Akash Deep couldn't escape the wrath of Abhishek and other Punjab batters. Shami leaked runs at an economy of 15.25, conceding 61 runs in four overs for one wicket. Akash Deep registered a couple of scalps but conceded 55 runs in his full quota of overs.

Despite taking just 32 balls to complete his hundred, this notably isn't the fastest century by an Indian in T20s. However, interestingly Abhishek does hold the record for slamming the joint-fastest century by an Indian in T20. He shares the record with wicketkeeper-batter Urvil Patel as both batters had previously slammed 28-ball centuries in 2024.

Recently, Urvil had smashed a 31-ball century in the SMAT 2025 clash between Gujarat and Services in Hyderabad and Abhishek did almost the same in the span of few days.
