An old video featuring Pakistan legend Wasim Akram alongside former India stars Harbhajan Singh and Sreesanth has recently resurfaced, drawing the attention of cricket fans. The timing is especially striking, as in just three weeks, Pakistan and India are set to clash in the Asia Cup, a contest eagerly awaited by millions.
The high-voltage encounter comes after a series of negotiations and moves by both cricket boards, as the two nations now only meet in ICC or ACC tournaments. Tensions remain heightened following the Pahalgam terror attack earlier this year, which further strained relations. Adding to the pressure, a scheduled showdown in the World Championship of Legends was cancelled, amplifying the anticipation surrounding their upcoming Asia Cup battle.

Between all of this, a video has gone viral in which Wasim Akram, Harbhajan Singh, Pragyan Ojha, Sreesanth and others can be seen dancing together. Moneycontrol cannot confirm when or where the video was shot but it has garnered a lot of attention.

Look at the happiness, joy, and sense of completeness on the faces of a few Indians. They might say this video was recorded before the Pahalgam attack, but I want to remind them — were you not aware of 26/11, the 2016 Uri attack, the 2019 Pulwama attack? Why, why? According to AI platform Grok, "The event in the video took place during the Legends League Cricket Masters tournament in Doha, Qatar, around March 20, 2023, likely at a post-final party. It's an older clip that's gone viral recently."
Akram has expressed his excitement ahead of the much-anticipated India-Pakistan clash in the Asia Cup 2025, scheduled for September 14 in Dubai. The game will mark the first meeting between the two arch-rivals since the tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which left 26 civilians dead.
Relations between the cricket boards of both countries have been severely strained since the incident, with bilateral ties at their lowest point in years. Despite the tension, Akram—widely regarded as one of the greatest ambassadors of the sport—has called for restraint and respect from both sets of supporters when the teams lock horns next month.
"I am sure these matches will be entertaining, just like all other India-Pakistan matches. But I hope both the players and the fans will remain disciplined and not cross the line. If Indians are patriotic and want their team to win, the same goes for Pakistani fans. India have been in better form recently and will start as favourites, but the team that handles pressure best on the day will win," Akram told Telecom Asia Sport.
