Jay Shah, the secretary of BCCI, confirmed on Sunday that Rohit Sharma, who recently retired from T20Is after guiding Team India to victory in the T20 World Cup held in the USA and West Indies, will assume the captaincy for two significant upcoming events next year. These include the Champions Trophy scheduled in Pakistan in February, followed by the World Test Championship final, set to take place at Lord's in London in June. Expressing optimism about India's prospects, Shah stated, "I am confident that under Rohit Sharma's leadership, we will clinch victory in both the WTC Final and Champions Trophy."
Shah's remarks were part of a video uploaded by ANI on 'X', where he extended congratulations to the Indian team for their triumph in the ICC T20 World Cup. He dedicated this achievement to skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, outgoing head coach Rahul Dravid, and Ravindra Jadeja. Reflecting on India's recent performances, Shah highlighted their journey to three finals over the past year, including a loss to Australia in June 2023 and a memorable string of victories in the ODI World Cup in November 2023, albeit falling short in the final against Australia.

Back in February at Rajkot, Shah had originally announced Rohit Sharma's captaincy for the 2024 T20 World Cup, confidently predicting India's success in the championship.
