India endured a huge blow right at the start of the third Test against England at Lord's. After starting the match on a promising note, India were struck with a major injury concern in the second session of the opening day. Swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant took a hit on the fingers of his left hand, forcing him to leave the field. He has been replaced by Dhruv Jurel, with the substitution coming after the 34th over.
The injury occurred in between the 34th over bowled by Jasprit Bumrah and Pant appeared in a lot of pain by his reaction. Bumrah pitched it full, however, down the leg as Ollie Pope failed to get a connection while attempting a flick. Pant put a full-length dive but managed to get his fingertips as the batters ran a double in the form of byes.

Soon after the physio was called and Pant was seen jumping around in agony. TV replays caught his fingers heavily taped as he required some attention in the opening session as well.
Dhruv Jurel was then signalled to get his attire ready, which he obliged. Meanwhile, Pant was seen getting attended by the physio on the sidelines but the pain clearly appeared on his face, sending worrying signs for India considering the form he is in.

When Pant finally climbed up into the dressing room, head coach Gautam Gambhir left his seat on the balcony and rushed to check the wicketkeeper.
Meanwhile, the official update from BCCI stated that Pant "got hit on his left index finger. He is receiving treatment at the moment and under the supervision of the medical team."
Earlier, Nitish Kumar Reddy helped India get off to a strong start, striking twice in an over. The hosts, won the toss and opted to bat, started on a cautious note as Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley added 43 runs for the first wicket. However, Nitish Reddy helped India gain early momentum by injecting double blows, reducing England to 44/2. Duckett was dismissed for 23, while Crawley managed 18. Joe Root and Ollie Pope then ensured England didn't lose any further wickets in the opening session and took the team to 83/2 at Lunch.
