The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is fast approaching but the suspense around Team India's travel plans to Pakistan, the hosts of the marquee event, still remains prevalent. The Men In Blue have not traveled to Pakistan since 2008 and it looks highly unlikely due to political tensions between the two countries. Considering the scenario there have been talks about hosting the tournament in a hybrid model, like they did with Asia Cup 2023, which was partially played in Pakistan and Sri Lanka despite the former being the hosts. Although the official schedule of the tournament is yet to be out, it is expected to be played between the months of February and March next year.

So when the same question was posed to Pakistan's newly-appointed white-ball skipper Mohammad Rizwan, he rather gave a diplomatic answer. The wicketkeeper-batter in response said: "Pakistan fans love Indian players; we received love in India as well (during the 2023 World Cup). We also want India to come to Pakistan and play here."

Rizwan, however, was quick to add that he is unaware about the latest developments, but assured of a rousing welcome if India does visit the neighboring country for the 50-over tournament. "I'm unsure if they're coming for the Champions Trophy, but one thing is certain - if they come, they'll receive an awesome welcome here," he added.

A report in ANI last week stated that the ICC council were satisfied over the detailed briefing of arrangements presented by the Pakistan Cricket Board officials for next year's Champions Trophy. The preparations were revealed in an ICC meeting, during which the PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, was also present.

Pakistan have not hosted any major ICC tournament since the 1996 ODI World Cup, which it co-hosted with India and Sri Lanka.

India focus on WTC, Pakistan begin preparation

Rohit Sharma-led India are engaged in a busy Test calendar and kept ODIs on the backseat. The team conceded a series loss against New Zealand but will hope for a consolation win in the third match, which starts from November 1 in Mumbai. Following the series, India will travel to Down Under for a much anticipated five-match series against Australia.

Pakistan, on the other hand, will engage in an ODI and T20I series against Australia and Zimbabwe, which starts next month. The Australia tour is slated to run from November 4-18. The three-match ODI and T20I series in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe will be played from November 24 to December 5. Pakistan will then tour to South Africa for three ODIs, three T20Is and two Tests in December-January.
