KKR vs PBKS IPL 2024: With this win at Eden Gardens, Punjab Kings broke their 4-match losing streak in some style

A struggling Punjab Kings side put on a six-hitting masterclass at Eden Gardens yesterday, April 26, as they knocked off Kolkata Knight Riders's imposing target of 262 with 8 wickets in hand and with 8 balls to spare. PBKS skipper Sam Curran won the toss and chose to bowl first, a decision which backfired as the home side KKR smashed 261/6 in their 20 overs.

However, a brilliant unbeaten century by Jonny Bairstow (108* of 48) and rapid half-centuries by Prabhsimran Singh (54 of 20) and Shashank Singh (68 of 28) saw the struggling touring side notch a win after 4 consecutive losses.

The match, which saw a total of 523 runs in 38.4 overs, broke a slew of records. We take a look at 5 records that were broken during the KKR vs PBKS IPL 2024 match at the Eden Gardens:

Highest successful T20 chase

PBKS chasing down 262 against KKR at Eden Gardens is the highest successful chase in the history of IPL and T20 cricket. Before yesterday's match, Rajasthan Royals held the record for the highest chase in IPL history, with 224 to its name. RR achieved the feat twice, once against PBKS in 2020 and against KKR earlier this year in the 2024 season.

In T20 internationals, South Africa held the previous highest successful chase after it knocked down 259 against the West Indies in Centurion, in 2023.

Equalled the highest total in the second innings

PBKS's total of 262/2 yesterday equalled RCB's total of the same runs as the highest total recorded in the second innings of a T20 match. RCB achieved this feat earlier this year against SRH, but still finished second best as they lost the match by 25 runs.

Most sixes in a men's T20 match

As mentioned earlier, fans at Eden Gardens were treated to a six-hitting masterclass as a total of 42 sixes were recorded across both innings yesterday. The previous record was 38 sixes earlier this year, which occurred during the SRH vs MI match in Hyderabad on March 27, 2024.

Most sixes in an IPL innings

Sticking to the sixes theme, Punjab Kings smashes 24 maximum yesterday during their successful chase. This is the most number of sixes recorded in an IPL innings. Jonny Bairstow smashed 9 sixes, Shashank Singh hit 8 maximums, Prabhsimran Singh hit 5, while Rilee Rossouw hit 2 sixes.

3rd fastest 50 for PBKS

Prabhsimran Singh's blitzkrieg of an innings set the tone for PBKs to successfully chase down 262. Singh reached his half-century in just 18 balls, which is the third quickest for a Punjab Kings player in IPL history. Former skipper KL Rahul holds the record for the quickest 50, reaching the mark in just 14 balls.
