After a well-deserved break of over two weeks, Jasprit Bumrah returned to action for the third Test at Lord’s. The world’s top-ranked Test bowler once again proved he's one of the best to ever play for India as he surpassed the legendary Kapil Dev on the list bowlers with most wickets in Tests in England.
Kapil Dev took 43 wickets with a best figure of 5/125 in 13 matches in played in England for India. Bumrah now is on 44 with the wicket of Ben Stokes.
Bumrah is also on the verge of a significant milestone. In this series, he has the opportunity to overtake Ishant Sharma as India’s highest wicket-taker in Test matches played in England.
Ishant, who last played a Test in 2021, currently holds the record with 48 wickets in 14 matches against England in their home conditions. Bumrah, meanwhile, has already claimed 42 wickets from just nine Tests on English soil—putting him within striking distance of surpassing Ishant’s mark.
Team captain Shubman Gill had hinted during the post-match presentation in Birmingham that Bumrah would be back in the playing XI for this crucial encounter.
Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah reached a notable milestone by equalling Pat Cummins’ record of dismissing Joe Root 11 times in Test cricket — the joint-most by any bowler against the England star. Closely following them is Australia’s Josh Hazlewood, who has dismissed Root 10 times. The Bumrah vs Root duel has been one of the standout rivalries in the ongoing five-Test series, and the Indian fast bowler gained the upper hand once again by removing Root in the first innings at Lord’s.
