After a humble start to the series, the focus now has shifted towards the second Test against England set to take place in Birmingham from July 2. As per a Times of India report, while players were seen having an intense practice, premier fast-bowler Jasprit Bumrah did not participate in any on-field activity. The observation sparked speculation that the senior might get rested for the upcoming game to manage his workload.

However, Bumrah was not the only fast-bowler absent from nets in the practice. Prasidh Krishna also didn't take part in the practice session. While some reports suggest that Bumrah might miss the second Test, absence of Krishna has also sparked speculation whether the Indian team is considering some changes in the lineup.

Jasprit Bumrah bowled a taxing 44 overs in the opening Test of the series, underlining his importance in India’s bowling lineup. Despite being the team’s leading pace option, the management is treading cautiously with his workload, keeping long-term fitness in mind. Head coach Gautam Gambhir had earlier hinted that Bumrah might not be part of all five matches, suggesting he would likely feature in no more than three. After the loss in Leeds, Gambhir reaffirmed that Bumrah’s participation would be reviewed before each game.

At the nets, young fast bowlers Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep were seen having detailed interactions with Gambhir, sparking discussions around team selection. While it was initially believed that only one of them would get a chance, Prasidh Krishna’s possible unavailability could pave the way for both to play in the second Test. If selected, it would mark Arshdeep’s Test debut. Elsewhere, the squad made full use of the practice session. Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant faced lengthy spells in the nets, while Mohammed Siraj focused heavily on improving his batting.

On the other side, England has already confirmed their squad for the second Test, with Jofra Archer making a return after a prolonged absence. All eyes will be on whether he finds a place in the playing XI for the clash against India.
