Top IPL 2024 Purple Cap contenders: Harshal Patel of Punjab Kings secured the Purple Cap with 14 wickets this season after dismissing Rinku Singh, surpassing Jasprit Bumrah and Yuzvendra Chahal.

Punjab Kings' fast bowler Harshal Patel claimed the Purple Cap on Friday after dismissing Kolkata Knight Riders' batter Rinku Singh, bringing his season total to 14 wickets. This put him ahead of Mumbai Indians' pacer Jasprit Bumrah and Rajasthan Royals' leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.

Patel has 14 wickets with an average of 23.28 and a strike rate of 10.18. Bumrah, on the other hand, has 13 wickets this season with a better average of 15.69 and an economy rate of 6.37, keeping him ahead of Chahal, who has an average of 20.38 and an economy rate of 8.83.

Delhi Capitals' left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav re-entered the top five after taking 2/29 in a high-scoring match against Gujarat Titans on Wednesday, bringing his season total to 12 wickets and placing him fourth.

Similarly, Sunrisers Hyderabad's left-arm pacer T Natarajan reached 12 wickets for the season, earning two wickets for 39 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Thursday, placing him in the top five.
