IPL 2025: In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Suryakumar Yadav scored 600 runs in a season for the second time in his career. The previous season, 2023, saw the Mumbai Indians advance to Qualifier 2 of the playoffs. Two years later, when MI made it to the knockout stages once more, Suryakumar was among the top scorers with a season that defined his career and saw him overtake the great Sachin Tendulkar.
The India T20I captain accomplished the feat at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur during Mumbai's last league match against the Punjab Kings. On his way to his sixth half-century of the season, Suryakumar set a new record for the most runs scored by a Mumbai Indians batsman. He became the highest individual run scorer in a single IPL season, shattering Sachin's 15-year mark. In the 2010 season, the former MI captain scored 618 runs, including five fifties.

This season, Suryakumar has amassed 640 runs in 14 games. It surpasses his 2023 performance of 605 runs in 16 games and is his best-ever performance in an IPL season. Suryakumar will have the opportunity to become the first Mumbai batsman to score 700 runs in an IPL tournament now that the team has qualified for the playoffs. He would become the third Indian batsman to achieve that record, following Virat Kohli (2016, 2024) and Shubman Gill (2023).
This season, the Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, MI, and PBKS are the four teams who have already advanced to the playoffs. The final standings will be determined by the two league games that remain.
Punjab is currently in second place with 17 points, but a loss to Mumbai might move them up to third or even fourth place, possibly advancing them to the May 30 Eliminator.
It appears more difficult for the Shreyas Iyer-led team to finish in the top two since they must not only defeat the formidable Mumbai team but also hope that GT (18 points) and RCB (17 points) lose their respective final games.
Therefore, in order to finish in the top two, PBKS, who fell to the Delhi Capitals in their last game, must defeat MI. If MI defeats Punjab Kings and GT and RCB lose, their higher net run rate than the other four qualifying teams may help them.
