The India squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, which gets underway from October 6 in Gwalior, was announced on Saturday. Mayank Yadav, the tearaway pacer, who grabbed plenty eyeballs during the previous edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) earned his maiden call-up to the national side. Mayank has been on the sidelines since April 30 after suffering an injury during the IPL 2024. He played a total of seven matches in which he scalped seven wickets at an economy of below seven. More than his wickets, it was his pace that was most talked, with many expecting him to be part of India's T20 World Cup plans.
Varun Chakravarthy, who last played for India almost three years ago, made a return to the side. The spinner, who plays for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL, is making a return to the national fold after November 2021. Chakravarthy had an exceptional IPL and had finished as the second-highest wicket-taker from the tournament. He had accounted for 21 wickets from 15 encounters and has worked with head coach Gautam Gambhir at the lucrative T20 league.
Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill, who are currently engaged in the red-ball format, have been rested for the T20Is. The duo played a great role in India's comprehensive 280-run victory over Bangladesh in the first Test in Chennai. Moving forward with India lined to play as many as 10 Tests, including the one at Chepauk, the management decided to rest the duo.
Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma are the two wicketkeepers in the side. Apart from them, Hardik Pandya will return to action. The all-rounder was part of the Sri Lanka T20Is, which were played in July, but had decided to skip the 50-over format due to personal reasons.
India’s squad for 3 T20Is against Bangladesh: Suryakumar Yadav (C), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (wk), Rinku Singh, Hardik Pandya, Riyan Parag, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Varun Chakaravarthy, JItesh Sharma (wk), Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Mayank Yadav
