During the President's Cup first-class competition final in Rawalpindi, Pakistani batsman Saud Shakeel, who had scored a half-century against India in the Champions Trophy, was timed out after allegedly dozing off while awaiting his turn to bat.
He is the first batter to be timed out in Pakistani cricket history and just the seventh batter overall.
The State Bank vs. PTV game took place on Tuesday evening. The final was played from 7.30 PM to 2.30 AM under floodlights for the first time in Pakistani domestic cricket history because of Ramadan.
In the final, Saud was waiting for his turn to bat for State Bank when Muhammad Shahzad, a bowler, took two wickets in two balls, removing Fawad Alam and Umar Amin. "Saud reached the crease beyond the three-minute time limit allowed for a new batter to come in and take guard at the crease," an official at the match said.
He claimed that when Saud eventually made it to the crease, PTV captain Ammad Butt asked the umpires for a time-out dismissal, and the appeal was granted. Irfan Khan Niazi, Pakistan's white ball player, had to enter at that point, and Shahzad bowled him to complete a hat-trick.
In the 2023 ODI World Cup match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, Shakib-ul-Hasan successfully appealed against Angelo Matthews, marking the last time a time-out appeal was made against a batsman. Shahzad scored a hundred for PTV after taking five wickets.
