India’s joint NISAR satellite with NASA will start operations on 7th November. The announcement was made by the ISRO chief. The satellite NISAR was successfully launched on 30 July from Satish Dhawan Centre. It weighs 2,400 kilograms and carries advanced radar systems.
Declaration of NISAR Operational
The joint NASA‑ISRO satellite NISAR is expected to be declared operational on 7 November. Once declared operational, NISAR will begin its Earth‑observation mission in earnest.
NISAR carries two radars, L-band and S-band, for Earth observation. These radars can penetrate clouds and monitor vegetation, soil moisture.
It can map land deformation, track ice changes, and monitor forests. The satellite enables scientists to analyse natural disasters accurately and efficiently.
Who Is Involved in the Project?
NISAR is a collaborative effort between ISRO and NASA teams. India contributed launch vehicle, integration and operational support expertise efficiently. NASA provided advanced radar technology and data handling instruments successfully. The partnership highlights international cooperation in space research and exploration.
Why This Mission Matters?
Satellite data will aid agriculture, disaster management and climate research. Real-time monitoring improves understanding of Earth’s dynamic environmental changes. It strengthens India’s position globally. The mission demonstrates capabilities for future scientific and humanitarian applications.
Gaganyaan Project Scheduled for January 2026
ISRO’s Gaganyaan programme plans first uncrewed flight in January 2026. This mission prepares for future crewed flights under the programme. India is planning for its first Bhartiya Antariksh Station module launch by 2028. The 52-tonne space station will host six crew members maximum.
