In the Hindu calendar, Teej festivals hold a special place in the hearts of women, especially those praying for a happy married life and the long life of their husbands. The 2025 Teej calendar features three main celebrations: Hariyali Teej, Kajari Teej, and Hartalika Teej. Each of these festivals reflects deep devotion, age-old traditions, and the inner strength of womanhood.

Mostly celebrated across North India, Teej is a time when women dress in beautiful green clothes, apply mehendi, and adorn themselves with solah shringar. These sacred fasts, often observed during the Sawan or Shravan month, are believed to bring peace, prosperity, and the divine blessings of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

Hariyali Teej 2025: Hariyali Teej falls during the lush monsoon season, symbolizing nature’s abundance and fertility. Primarily observed in Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh, this Teej celebrates the divine reunion of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Women wear green sarees, apply mehendi, and sing traditional folk songs. The festival honors Parvati’s unwavering devotion, as legends say she performed 108 lifetimes of penance before uniting with Lord Shiva.

Kajari Teej 2025: Kajari Teej, also called Kajli Teej or Boodhi Teej, is rich in emotional and cultural traditions. Celebrated in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, MP, and Rajasthan, it is marked by heartfelt Kajari folk songs that express the monsoon's charm and the yearning of women for their partners. Rituals include worshipping Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, and the Moon. Married women also receive Sindhara (gifts) from their maternal homes, strengthening familial bonds and traditions.

Hartalika Teej 2025: Hartalika Teej is a celebration of Parvati’s devotion and women’s strength. The word "Hartalika" comes from "Harat" (abduction) and "Aalika" (female friend), referencing how Goddess Parvati’s friend helped her escape an unwanted marriage alliance and perform penance in solitude. On this day, women keep a nirjala vrat (waterless fast) and worship idols of Shiva-Parvati, often crafted from clay or sand. The day is filled with prayers, solah shringar, mehendi rituals, and soulful devotion, believed to bring marital joy, health, and divine blessings.

Significance of Teej Fasting

All three Teej festivals are tied to the theme of divine love, perseverance, and spiritual strength. Women observe fasts not only as a ritual but as a means of spiritual empowerment and family prosperity. Whether you're celebrating for the first time or continuing your kul parampara (family tradition), understanding each Teej's meaning helps deepen the experience.
