Ashadha Krishna Chaturthi, also known as Krishnapingala Sankashti Chaturthi, is considered one of the most auspicious days to worship Lord Ganesha. Devotees observe this vrat to seek blessings for removing obstacles and fulfilling desires, especially child-related wishes. The form of Lord Ganesha worshipped during this vrat is Krishnapingala Ganapati.
Significance of Krishnapingala Sankashti Chaturthi
As narrated by Lord Krishna to Yudhishthira, this vrat has deep spiritual importance. Observing it with faith grants happiness, wealth, and progeny. The vrat is particularly recommended for those seeking relief from personal and familial hardships.
The Legend of King Mahijit
In ancient times, there lived a noble king named Mahijit who ruled over Mahishmati. Though he was a kind and just ruler, he remained childless despite performing numerous yajnas, donations, and penance. Saddened by his fate, he turned to his Brahmins and citizens for guidance. Wanting to help their beloved king, they journeyed to a forest and met the great sage Lomash, who was performing intense penance.
The sage, known for his long lifespan and immense knowledge, listened to the people’s plight. He advised them to observe the Krishnapingala Sankashti Chaturthi Vrat and perform proper rituals, including donating food and clothes to Brahmins. The sage promised that by doing so, King Mahijit would soon be blessed with a child.
The king followed the instructions diligently. His queen, Sudakshina, gave birth to a virtuous son, proving the divine power of the vrat. Lord Ganesha fulfilled the king’s heartfelt wish, and his kingdom rejoiced.
