The sacred Shri Ambaji Mata Temple, nestled in Gujarat’s Aravalli ranges, is set for a major transformation under a long-term master plan. Known for drawing lakhs of devotees year-round especially during the full moon and the famous Bhadarvi Poonam fair, Ambaji is one of the most important Shakti Peethas in India.

With spiritual tourism growing steadily, the Gujarat government, led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, has launched a ₹1,632 crore redevelopment plan to elevate Ambaji into a benchmark temple town. This initiative is part of the broader “Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi” vision inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who also contributed significantly to Ambaji’s development during his tenure as Chief Minister.

The state’s new 50-year master plan, under the Gujarat Pavitra Yatradham Vikas Board, focuses on improving both the spiritual ambiance and infrastructure of the pilgrimage site in Danta taluka of Banaskantha district. The development will unfold in two phases:

• Phase 1: Estimated ₹950 crore investment
• Phase 2: Estimated ₹682 crore investment

At the heart of this project are two major sites like Gabbar Parvat, believed to be where Goddess Sati’s heart fell, and the Ambaji Mata Temple, home to the sacred Visha Yantra. These will be connected via Shaktipath, an integrated and symbolic spiritual route. Gabbar Parvat will see enhanced facilities including a ropeway upgrade, parikrama path, and a new Gabbar Arrival Plaza with a light and sound show. The iconic Chachar Chowk will be expanded threefold and feature mythological galleries and murals to enrich the spiritual narrative for devotees.

The plan promotes sustainable infrastructure while enhancing connectivity and preserving religious heritage. Themes from the stories of Goddess Sati will be reflected across key points like Sati Ghat, Sati Sarovar, and event plazas designed for religious festivals like Garba. A new pedestrian underpass, arrival zones, and thematic corridors will offer pilgrims a smoother and more meaningful darshan experience.

Rooted in devotion and long-term foresight, this master plan aims to make Ambaji Yatradham a world-class spiritual destination. With guidance from PM Modi and the leadership of CM Bhupendra Patel, Ambaji’s transformation will not only enhance pilgrim facilities but also preserve and celebrate India’s divine cultural legacy.
