Papankusha Ekadashi 2025 will be observed on Friday, October 3, 2025. This sacred Ekadashi holds great significance in Hinduism as it is believed to free devotees from all sins (paap) and bless them with prosperity, longevity, and ultimate liberation (moksha). Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, it is considered one of the most auspicious days for observing fast and performing puja with utmost devotion.

Papankusha Ekadashi Vrat Katha

According to the legend, once a cruel hunter named Krodhan lived in Vindhyachal. As his end approached, he was advised by a sage to observe Papankusha Ekadashi Vrat. By observing the fast with devotion, the hunter attained liberation despite his sinful life. This katha emphasizes that sincere observance of this vrat washes away sins and grants divine blessings of Lord Vishnu.

Rituals and Puja Vidhi

  • Morning Bath and Sankalp: Devotees wake up early, take a holy bath, and take a vow (sankalp) to observe the fast.
  • Lord Vishnu Puja: An idol or picture of Lord Vishnu is placed on a clean altar. The puja includes offering flowers, tulsi leaves, incense, lamp, fruits, and sweets.
  • Fasting: Strict devotees observe Nirjala Vrat (without food and water), while others keep a partial fast by consuming fruits, milk, and vrat-friendly meals.
  • Chanting and Prayers: Reciting Vishnu Sahasranama and other Vishnu bhajans is considered highly auspicious.
  • Charity and Dana: Donating food, clothes, or money to the poor and needy is recommended for good karma.
  • Parana (Breaking the Fast): The fast is broken on Dwadashi Tithi after the sunrise, within the prescribed Parana time.
