Thomson Reuters CEO Thomas Glocer said on Thursday Latin America was very strong for the electronic news and data provider, as well as the Gulf, China and India.

Glocer told Reuters Insider television, which is owned by Thomson Reuters, that he generally shared rising business optimism, though he added that "it's a multi-speed optimism for a multi-speed world".

In "Brazil, the Gulf, Asia the optimism is off the charts but it feels a little bit different at the periphery in Europe," Glocer said. "On balance, given a balanced business like ours, yes it's very positive for 2011."

Turning to the financial sector, Glocer said banks were rebalancing their activity. Fixed income desks had a "rough time" in the second half of last year but people were now positioning themselves for the long-term environment, he added.

Speaking about Thomson Reuters business generally, Glocer said: "In our world, Latin America is very strong for us, not only in the financial services world but in legal and in tax and accounting as well, so we're excited about it."

Asked about other growth areas, Glocer said; "The Gulf has been strong right through, India and China are strong for us and also at the edges of Asia. Pretty much everywhere, even Japan has had a pretty good run for us in the last couple of years."

Thomson Reuters is expected to report on February 10, revenue for 2010 flat to slightly up compared with the year ago period. The company benefited from a recovery in several key sectors including the financial, legal and health care industries.

The company invested USD 1 billion in new initiatives including online financial video news service Reuters Insider and a new desktop trading terminal for financial professionals, Eikon.

In December, Thomson Reuters launched a new United States domestic news service, Reuters America, targeting media clients and competing with the Associated Press.
