Russia launches attack on Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia, casualties reported | N18G
On January 8, 2025, a Russian guided bomb attack on the southeastern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia killed at least 13 people and injured 29 others, with the death toll expected to rise. The victims were found scattered across the road and adjacent pavements near damaged public transport. The bombs targeted a residential area, causing extensive damage to high-rise apartment blocks, an industrial facility, and other infrastructure. A tram and a bus with passengers were hit by debris. Emergency workers were seen attempting to resuscitate a man amidst flames, smoke, and destroyed vehicles. The attack involved two guided bombs, and regional governor Ivan Fedorov confirmed the use of aerial bombs on civilians. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the act as cruel and urged Western allies to apply more pressure on Russia. Russia regularly conducts airstrikes in Zaporizhzhia, which is partially occupied by Russian forces, and Moscow claims to have annexed the region.
