Maldivian president Muizzu arrives in India, pays homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat

President Droupadi Murmu received the Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu at the ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also attended the ceremony. President Muizzu inspected the guard of honour in the presence of India's president and PM Modi. Muizzu arrived in India on Sunday for a four-day state visit to reset the strained ties with India amid a looming economic crisis in the island nation. Muizzu will hold talks with Modi on Monday after which India is expected to announce pacts in the infrastructure sector to strengthen the bilateral relationship. Muizzu, who will be in India till Thursday, will also visit Mumbai and Bengaluru to attend business events. During his visit, Muizzu will hold discussions with Modi on bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest. The current visit by Muizzu to Delhi is his second since he attended Modi's swearing-in ceremony in June. Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu also paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat on Monday after ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan earlier in the morning.
