A woman from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, shared her harrowing experience on X, recounting an unsettling encounter with a Zomato delivery partner late at night. The woman, who ordered coffee amid heavy rainfall in the state, when most cafes were closed, detailed how what began as a routine delivery soon turned into a deeply uncomfortable situation.
The woman explained that the delivery was delayed by around 15-30 minutes due to the weather, which she said she fully understood. However, when she went to collect her order, the delivery partner's behaviour made her uneasy.
According to her X post, the man repeatedly apologised for the delay, all while smiling in a way that made her feel uncomfortable. He claimed to have been injured, and despite her initial discomfort, she found herself pointing her flashlight at his feet out of curiosity.
What she saw next shocked her. "His genitals were out of his pants, and he was smiling like a creep," she wrote. The delivery partner allegedly mocked her, saying, "Mam, please help kardo." The woman further claimed that he later called her that night. She shared screenshots of the order, the delivery partner’s name and her 1-star rating.
Disturbed and shaken, the woman reported the incident to Zomato. However, the initial response from the company added to her frustration as she was told they would need to hear both sides of the story, including the delivery partner's version of events.
She wrote, "I feel traumatised and infuriated because I know a lot of women who go through something similar multiple times a week and do not speak up. I feel ashamed to admit that I am desensitised to all of this happening because I am a woman and go through this very frequently. I shouldn’t be desensitised and numb to this but this country doesn’t allow us to be emotionally vulnerable."
In a subsequent update, the woman revealed that Zomato had taken action by terminating the delivery partner and revoking his license. While she acknowledged the company's prompt response, she noted that she still feels unsafe. "I won’t say I feel safe now, I still feel unsafe but they did what they could. I still am paranoid cause what if he returns back to the address? But I have legal support now," she wrote.
Soon after her post with multiple screenshots and tweets went viral, social media users came to her support tagging Zomato and founder Deepinder Goyal for action. However, a section started attacking her using old her old tweets, claiming she was lying and doing this for engagement.
The woman then locked her X profile and limited her posts.
